New book explores risk of cyber attacks

Attacks on personal, government and business networks are increasing, according to Rusty Baldwin, associate director of the Center for Cyberspace Research, part of the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Many attacks are automated, rather than backed by a human operator.

AFIT faculty member receives grant from AFOSR

The AFOSR solicitation in major areas of interest to the Air Force resulted in 210 proposals, leading to only 39 awards. Congratulations go to Maj. Jason Schmidt, an assistant professor of electro-optics in AFIT/ENG, for being the only military member to receive the award.

Ribbon cut on AFIT’s new building

In a ceremony held at the Air Force Institute of Technology’s campus on Thursday, 25 September, the ribbon was officially cut on the Institute’s newest building. Building 646 is home to the Air Force Center for Systems Engineering and the AFIT Command Section.

AFIT honored the three 2008 Distinguished Alumni September 26 at the Wright-Patterson Club & Banquet Center. Gen. Charles R. Holland, USAF retired; Lt. Gen. James W. Stansberry, USAF retired; and Brig. Gen. Horace L. Russell, USAF retired, were selected for their pioneering roles in science, engineering, and education.
