On January 24th, Dr. Igor Jovanovic, Professor of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences at the University of Michigan, visited the Air Force Institute of Technology’s Engineering Physics department at the invitation of Dr. John McClory, Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering.

The meeting was scheduled to seek closer collaborations between AFIT and the University of Michigan in the areas of radiation detection and nonproliferation. Dr. Jovanovic’s lifelong research into nuclear safeguards, and radiation detection using high-energy particles and lasers (active interrogation) crosscuts into many of AFIT’s Engineering Physics Department’s key mission areas.  While at AFIT, Dr. Jovanovic met with faculty to discuss potential paths for AFIT and University of Michigan to work together to provide innovative solutions to detecting nuclear materials and establish means for student and faculty interactions.
