Posted Monday, July 14, 2008

On Tuesday, 17 June 2008, the Air Force Institute of Technology’s School of Systems and Logistics Sustainment Curriculum Portfolio Management Team provided a briefing on the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Installations & Mission Support, Transformation Directorate Sustainment Curriculum Portfolio (SCP) Program to attendees and members of the Headquarters Air Force Life Cycle Logistics Workforce Reconstitution Focus Team’s kickoff at the University of Florida Research & Engineering Education Facility adjacent to Eglin AFB. The 90-minute presentation was provided by Mr. Walt Chin, AFIT/LSA, Director of Business Operations and Management, and Mr. Kevin Dewey, PESystems, Inc., Program Manager and Senior Logistician of the SCP Program.

The SCP Program acts as the focal point for the creation of a comprehensive digital storage space for AF logistics and sustainment education and training. The SCP program consists of the three dedicated personnel located at AFIT/LS in Kettering, Ohio.

Mr. Chin provided an SCP orientation that covered: discussions of the genesis of the SCP program, program guidance and direction, portfolio objectives, ownership and stakeholders, SCP approach, implementation and execution plans, relationship to the DoD Human Capital Strategy logistics career field, core competencies and credentialing approaches, and current database functionality. The presentation also addressed future functionality and utility of the SCP with the upcoming implementation of new integrated semantic search and analysis software enhancements.

Mr. Dewey provided demonstrations of the existing database access vehicles and a live functional demonstration of the SCP with the new database functions delivered via the Web utilizing the developing contractor development server. The meeting participants received an executive-level overview of how this USAF program’s capabilities could fit into a DoD enterprise environment. This would result in a logistics course management portfolio database globally accessible anytime and anywhere.

The SCP presentations closed with an informative Q&A session and well received post-briefing side bars. Each attendee received a Sustainment Curriculum Portfolio tri-fold brochure containing website particulars and contact information. Attendees were also provided details for on-line access to the presentation slides and SCP Guidance Memo via the HQ AFMC CoP.
